ISO 9001, a standard published by the International Standardization Organization, defines the minimum requirements that must be fulfilled for an organization to consistently deliver quality products or services.
It sets out a well-documented plan, do, check, and act procedure to be followed that galvanises the processes of a business or organization to continuously improve and deliver quality. It requires organizations, irrespective of size and nature of business or purpose, to set plans, implement them, evaluate the work done and take corrective action where changes need to be made.

ISO 17025:2017 is divided into five main sections that contain the requirements for good laboratory testing, sampling, and calibration practices.
Covers two main requirements for impartiality and confidentiality. This helps the organization to maintain trust and Confidence in their laboratory work.
This section guides the organization in defining the basic organizational components of a laboratory, its range of activities, and its commitment to an effective management system.
This section enables the organization to determine the personnel, facilities, equipment, systems, and support services it should have in order to perform its laboratory activities.
This section requires the organization to specify procedures for sample handling, sampling, sample measurement, testing, reporting of results, dealing with complaints, nonconforming work, control of data and information management, uncertainty control, control of data and information management.
This section covers eight activities, including QMS documentation such as policies and objectives, control of documentation and records, addressing risks and opportunities,
improvement, corrective action, internal audit and management review.
